When this project began, Frankly Co. was still just a concept. Their talented and inspiring founder Johanna Buchweitz came to me with the fun challenge of building a business brand before the app was even in the early stages of development, and helping her develop a visual style for her personal brand that aligned with her role as the founder of Frankly Co. along the way.

As she began to grow into her aspirational new brand, we added more complexity to the Frankly Co. brand family by expanding the brand styles to include the Limitless Podcast as well.
​
Even though the community and the app were still in early development, the founder knew that she wanted to be intentional from the get go, crafting a premium brand and website that spoke directly to her ideal audience, showed the amazing value of what Frankly Co. would soon have to offer, and could be implemented immediately by her social media content team to begin attracting early adopters and beta testers.

We explored every potential touchpoint that her audience could interact with, and helped her take the newly minted brand far beyond initial design and strategy, implementing with excellence, and bringing her brand into the world of premium touchpoints and consistent brand experiences.

BRAND MESSAGING
During our early Content Mining™ sessions, we learned that this company would be an online community and an app for driven women in business, providing them with exactly what they need to know to grow, right when they need it (rather than overwhelming them with business information that comes too soon for where they are today, or too late to keep them from making avoidable mistakes.)
​
They didn't yet have an official name for this brand when they came to us, so after some brainstorming, we helped them decide on Frankly Co. - Named after the founder's father - Frank, and after the dictionary definition of frankly, which is to speak with open, honest and direct communication - exactly what they wanted their app to do.
We created a full brand message around the problem that they solve for their ideal clients, and the unique solution that they bring to their audience - searchable content and actionable next steps without having to dig through hours of fluff content.

For the Frankly Co. logo - our main goal was to stand out in the female entrepreneurs space...The colors are bright, friendly and welcoming, without being overly feminine, and the font was chosen to be concise and structured, but with slightly rounded corners to keep it from being too masculine. The 3 dots and 2 lines that make up the F represent a checklist, because Frankly Co. is about providing you with actionable next steps, and the overall feel is simple, minimal, and to the point.
The logo and icon are both often used in a semi transparent watermark style, so as to make their presence known without distracting from the message.
BRAND GUIDELINES
As with any brand, consistency is key when it comes to building a loyal base of raving fan customers! Because of this, we set our clients up for success with an easy to follow, custom brand guideline that they can share with their in-house design group, or any external designer who works on their future brand collateral.

ART DIRECTION & STAGING
Companies & individuals often overlook the value of art direction, styling and staging when it comes to getting a personal brand photo shoot done. By pre-planning nearly every detail of the photo shoot in advance, from outfits to poses, we are able to create the exact images for our client's websites, podcast or book covers, digital touchpoints, and social media posts that communicate the story we are telling with their brand messaging. Rather than selecting random photos from a pre-existing library of images, we are able to create intentionality behind each shot, so that each of their photos really are worth 1,000 words!

For Johanna Buchweitz's New York photo shoot, we wanted to style her in a way that was distinctly related to the Frankly Co. brand, creating a recognizable look and feel of how she would choose to show up in the world as the founder.

WE FOCUSED ON FINDING THE DUALITY BETWEEN HER AS A CONFIDENT LEADER/ PROFESSIONAL BADASS, BUT WITHOUT LOSING THE WARMTH & APPROACHABILITY OF COMMUNITY

Because her company brand colors are so distinctive, we chose to let those flow into her personal brand style as well, creating a look that felt structured but warm. In a sea of standard black NY garb, she now confidently embodies the sunny Frankly Co. brand as she is out and about in the city, as well as when she is recording a podcast or meeting with a client. She embodies success, and confidently exudes a vibe of hitting goals with ease, but avoids looking distant or unattainable.

WEBSITE DESIGN
When it came to the Frankly Co. website, we designed it fully custom...

Designed with the client in mind from start to finish, we began with complete mockups for desktop, tablet and mobile sizes, all in XD. This custom layout not only drove the look and feel of the site, but also guided the developer in unique functionality and user experience.
CUSTOM DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
Not only did we want the website to be absolutely beautiful, with epic photos that make you want to drop what you're doing and join the Frankly community immediately... but we also wanted to clearly and concisely show the unique problem that Frankly solves, and give visitors a clear first action step to take when they visit her site. This was doubly complex, because we began branding Frankly from the time it was just a concept, and the app is still in development. Nevertheless, we knew that beginning to give her audience a place to go (and grow) was important right now, so we designed the website in stages, and launched each piece as she grew into it.
A WEBSITE THAT WORKS FOR YOU WHILE YOU SLEEP...
We believe that your website should not just look beautiful, but that it should work for you while you sleep. A well designed site should convert a high percentage of visitors into an audience who interacts with your content on the spot! In order to do that, the brand messaging throughout the site has to be clear, and the call to action precise.

Because the Frankly Co. App is still in the development stage, their call to action will shift over the next few months. With this initial launch, they are using their website to help build a community of early adopters who will fill out surveys and help them gather important information on exactly what their users want to see most from the functionality of this app.
Once app dev is complete, the CTA will switch to an offer to become a beta tester, and drive app changes to your personal preference, and then finally when beta tests are over, they will begin inviting site visitors to download the app right from the get go!

Starting with the Frankly custom font, we added wings that were inspired by the superhero vibe of the podcast name and message.

We expand on the superhero feeling with the way this logo is used - adding in smoke effects on the podcast weekly graphics and social media cover photos, etc.
Consistency doesn't have to be boring. We created the Limitless logo in multiple brand colors, and mixed up the way it was used to create more brand awareness without the blah!
NEXT WE ADDED PODCAST PAGES TO THE WEBSITE...
And designed some badass episode graphic templates that could be used to make those podcast pages a place where people would want to linger & enjoy...
And our efforts have paid off in big ways. Current analytics show that nearly 70% of her listeners are choosing to stay on the site and listen through her podcast player, vs navigating off site to Apple or Spotify, which equals natural boosts for her SEO rankings!
